Instagram engagement rate calculator

Add an account's followers and the likes, comments, shares and saves its posts usually get. You get the engagement rate two ways — by followers and by views — and whether its Reels get the views its size suggests.

Take the average of the last 10–12 posts, leaving out any giveaway or one that went viral.

Enter followers and likes to see the engagement rate.

Questions

How is engagement rate calculated?

+

Engagement rate by followers = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100, using the average of recent posts. Engagement rate by views divides by the post's views instead.

Followers or views — which should I use?

+

For Reels, views. A Reel is shown far beyond the creator's followers, so dividing by followers can make a small account look better or a big one worse than it is. Brands buying reach should look at views first.

What is a good engagement rate?

+

It falls as accounts grow, and differs by niche, so there is no single good number. Compare a creator with others of the same size and niche — and check their Reel views against their followers, which this tool does for you.

Can engagement be faked?

+

Yes — bought likes and comment pods inflate it. Warning signs are many likes but generic comments, engagement far above similar accounts, and Reel views well below the follower count.
