Instagram caption checker
Instagram shows about 125 characters before it hides the rest behind “… more”, and most captions fail right there. Paste yours to see it the way a scrolling stranger does — plus hashtags, links, your call to action and, for paid posts, whether the #ad label is where ASCI wants it.

Instagram now counts 5 hashtags per post (down from 30 in December 2025), and the feed shows about 125 characters before “… more”. Platform numbers change — if Instagram does something different today, Instagram is right.

Questions
How many hashtags can I use on Instagram now?
+
Five. Instagram cut the limit from 30 to 5 per post or Reel in December 2025 and recommends fewer, more specific tags. Generic ones like #viral or #explore describe nothing — spend the five on your topic and your city.
How much of my caption shows in the feed?
+
About 125 characters, depending on the phone and font. Everything after that is behind a tap, so the first line has to carry the hook — not a greeting, a hashtag or a mention.
Do I have to label paid posts in India?
+
Yes. ASCI's guidelines say paid, gifted or barter content must be clearly labelled — #ad, #collab, #sponsored or Instagram's own Paid partnership label — and the label must be up front, not buried below “… more” or in a wall of hashtags.
Are links in captions clickable?
+
No. A link in the caption can't be tapped. Put it in your bio, a story link sticker, or send it by DM — Auto-DM tools can send it to everyone who comments a keyword.
